Finally someone has taken pets necessities into consideration and pet restrooms are now available thanks to the Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority.

The new trend which recently started at both Dulles International and Reagan Airports, with rest areas directly outside the airports with real grass included for pet relief are some of the designated areas within the airport, others are made out of artificial turf, yet do not to worry because the inside grass in fully equipped with special ventilation, flushing and drainage equipment to keep all things sanitary.

The new establishments came after the Department of Transportation put a regulation into effect May 2009 stating that all airlines must have pet relief areas for passengers flying with service dogs.

If you have ever had to travel with a service dog previously you are probably aware of the problems with finding an area where pets could relieve themselves, but now with the example of the Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority we are hoping more airports jump this bandwagon.

Although the idea was initially meant to provide relief for service animals the areas are also available for non-service pets flying with pet owners.
